Description
This Beautiful Old Mahogany Sewing stand is approx. 70 years old (circa 1930s -1940s) and in original finish. It is very nice condition with minor age appropriate wear, structurally very sound and ready for use. It measures approx. 16-1/4” wide by 12” deep by 25-3/4” High. It has mahogany drawer / door fronts. The top section when pushed on the left side swings out clockwise to reveal a half circle with posts to hold your threads interior height maximum is approx. 2-1/2” High. The bottom section has a door, which opens on left and swings right to reveal a ¼ circle tray with 2-1/2” high walls to hold your scissors, needles etc… The section below the swing out would easily hold books, yarn or anything measuring 14-1/2” wide by 10” deep by 4” high. The legs are straight with an accent trim at the front corners on both sides. The top and legs are solid mahogany, sides and back are veneered but not damaged. The drawer fronts are mahogany veneer over solid wood. The interior of the lower section has some roughness but is still structurally very sound. The veneer on the ¼ round’s bottom is rippled and the edge has ½ of one layer of the bottom worn or broken away but, it does not affect the function and isn’t visible, when closed (barely noticed when open). The top has a mark like a scratch but not deep into the wood, darker than the rest of the top. (see photo) not too objectionable and a lamp or doiley would cover well. This sewing stand is the perfect size to use as a night- stand or bedside table. It would be best used on the right side of a bed though as it is easiest to open from that side. The hardware is brass or brass colored metal and has one screw hole holding it on (easily changed to something more contemporary if desired). All in all, it is a wonderful old mahogany sewing stand.
